Brent Fleming - - A Cousin

The James-Whitehurst Family Blog has reached one more relative that I haven't had the opportunity to see in quite some time, Brent Fleming. Those of you not familiar with my mother's family may remember Gerald Fleming who grew up in Stokes. Gerald married my cousin Mavis Mathews from Robersonville. They lived in Raleigh for many years. They had 2 sons--one being Brent who lives in California.
I received an email from Brent today giving me a brief update on his family that I'd like to share.

"I have a grandchild due April 8 and my youngest daughter is getting married August 2." Brent

Our Friends Doug & Ute Still Traveling on Their RV

"We are still in Las Vegas. This is my least favorite place so far. The traffic is horrendous and there are just too many people everywhere. You can't walk down the sidewalk without bumping into people. The temperatures have been great, however, the wind has been so wicked especially yesterday where dessert stony dust was so bad that it felt like hail hitting the car. We were on our way to watch the opening of the balloon festival that they have here this weekend, but because of the weather we turned around and came back. We are staying at Nellis AFB where the Thunderbirds are stationed and training and we are just about 10 miles north of the strip on the same road. Hoover Dam was very interesting and so was Lake Mead, but we found Lake Powell prettier.

I took so many pictures and every state we went into the scenery was prettier than the last one. The southern part of Utah was just so different than all the other states. Attached are a few pictures of Red and Bryce Canyon. We happened to catch "Sunset Point" at Bryce Canyon just at sunset and the mountains looked like they were lit up from the inside. The pictures are pretty but it was so much more beautiful in reality.

We'll be here until the 27th of September and then it's off to the Grand Canyons."

The Haltigans Visit Disney World - - Orlando

"We had a great week at Disney World! We experienced all four Disney theme parks, Downtown Disney, and Sea World. We also visited most of the Disney hotels and had lots of fun on waterslides and sand-bottom pools. The character meals were great for getting autographs and photos. Riding the tea cups and Cinderella's carousel was Ireland's favorite part and Alana's was meeting the princesses and eating at the Shark's Underwater Grill at Sea World. The girls were chosen to introduce The Little Mermaid show at MGM and also to dance along in the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom. We have some great video! It was an exciting vacation full of "firsts" for the girls--airplane ride, bus ride, taxi cabs, waterslides, etc."

Home School Field Trip to Beaufort & Ft Macon

Karen, Wendy and I took Savanna, Christopher, Kelli, McClain and Camden to visit Historic Beaufort and Fort Macon. It was a great adventure. We rode the double decker bus on a tour of Beaufort, had lunch on the waterfront, visited the Maritime Museum, stopped for some fudge and then traveled to Fort Macon before traveling back home.
