Ruben Edwards Service

BETHEL - Ruben Edwards, 70, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church in Bethel with the Rev. Walter Sumerlin officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel City Cemetery. He was born in Columbus County on July 25, 1937 to the late Alton and Clyde Strickland Edwards. He was a retired Service Representative of Massey Ferguson. Originally from Clarkton, he was a member of Heritage F.W.B. Church in Bethel. Ruben enjoyed fishing, music, working in woodcrafts and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Whitaker Edwards; a son, Reuben Alton Edwards and wife, Holly Webb Edwards, of Bethel; a stepson, John Whitaker of Bethel; two daughters, Jennifer Manning and Alice Caroline Edwards, both of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Patricia Mosley of Bethel and Melissa Briley of Stokes; three brothers, Bill Edwards of White Lake, Roscoe Edwards of Clarkton, Jerry Edwards of Raleigh; three sisters, Marjorie Turnage of Raleigh, Peggy Shackleford of Wachala, Fla., Mary Elizabeth Smith of Clayton; three grandchildren, Bobby Manning, Brooklyn Teel, Angel Edwards; four step-grandchildren, Hunter, Sumner, Terri, and Joe; and four great-grandchildren, Breanna, Abigayle, Trysten, and Skylar. He is also survived by his former wife, Dorothy Whitehurst of Bethel; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held tonight from 5 to 8 at Walker Ayers Chapel, Washington Street, Bethel and other times at the home of his daughter, Jennifer Manning, 3121 Penny Hill Road, Greenville in the Belvoir Community. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage F.W.B. Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1165, Bethel. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
